Success in San Diego moves the Gauchos up in the National Poll

The #12 Gaucho Volleyball team returned from San Diego and the Mesa Classic Volleyball tournament with an impressive 2-2 record and a 4th place finish in the 16 team, all California field.

"We played two very competitive teams on Saturday. Pierce is the defending California JUCO State Champion and Delta Valley is always in the top 5 in California. Our scores were close and it came down to a couple of plays here and there. Things could've gone either way. The team played very hard." said Head Coach Lisa Stuck.

The Gauchos mark for the season now stands at 10-5 with the more important mark of 5-0 in ACCAC play. The weekend results moved the Gauchos up one spot to #12 in the National poll. "Now our focus shifts to conference play and trying to earn a berth in the Regional Championships in November." added Stuck. Conference play returns tonight as the Gauchos host the Cougars from South Mountain at 7 p.m.

Another welcome sign of the weekend for the Gauchos was the announcement that Sophomore Jessica Brody (St. Mary's HS) was named to the all tournament team. "Jess has played really well for us all year, she always plays with tremendous effort and energy and this weekend was no different."

The Gauchos will host the Cougars at 7 pm tonight in Glendale and then head to Scottsdale Friday for a rematch with the Chokes also at 7 pm.
