Gauchos fall in double overtime to CoyotesWomen's Soccer loses heartbreaker to Coyotes
The Women's Soccer team battled Chandler-Gilbert Wednesday night falling in double overtime to the Coyotes 2-1. "They really played well." Gauchos head coach Michelle Di Meola said. "They fought hard and showed a lot of resilience against a very good team. The loss is definitely tough, but it shows signs that we are working hard and we've been right there twice now." Freshman Forward, Denise Cuevas (Peoria HS) scored late in the second half to tie the score at 1-1. The Gauchos and Coyotes battled to a stalemate after the first overtime and through much of the second before Chandler-Gilbert scored with 3 minutes left in the second overtime. "The ball just bounced their way at the end and that's how it works sometimes." added Di Meola.
Sophomore Goalkeeper, Selina Conway (Peoria HS) had 26 saves for the Gauchos to keep them in the game throughout. "Selina played great, she really saved us in a few key spots in the game. Her effort like the effort of the entire team was exceptional."
Up next: The Gauchos will host the visiting Pima Aztecs at 11 a.m. Saturday at GCC.
