Students-athletes have ample opportunity to continue their playing careers across the country. Former players have gone on to play at U of Maine, Grand Canyon U, West Virginia-Wesleyan, Tusculum College(TN), Bethany College (KS), Fort Lewis University (CO), Concordia U (NY), and Middle Tennessee U.Rebecca graduated from Prescott High School in 1998 where she was a four year letterman and four year all region player. She also played softball at GCC ('99 & '00) under former coach, Laura Dodrill. Rebecca played first base for the Gauchos. Coach Dodrill had a successful coaching career at GCC and in both of Rebecca's seasons, the team played for a regional championship. She then went on to finish her playing career at Georgia College & State University, a Div. II school in Milledgeville, where she still holds offensive and defensive records. Shaw graduated from GC&SU with a B.S. in Psychology and a M.A. in Secondary Education. She was on the president's honor roll as a student-athlete and instills the value of education in her team. While working on her Master's, she was the graduate assistant for the softball program where she helped lead her former team to the National Championship for the first time in school history.
Since taking over the Gaucho Softball Program, Rebecca has been back in Glendale where she resides with her husband Nick and daughter Jaelyn. Coach Shaw is looking forward to helping her girls have another successful year both on and off the field.
Trisha Thurston returns to the Gaucho softball program as assistant coach in charge of strength and conditioning.
She played for Rebecca Shaw in 2006 and 2007 where she earned All-Region and All-Conference Honors. She was also named as an Academic All-American in 2007. After receiving her A.A. degree, she transferred to West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was named to the WVIAC All-Conference team in 2008 and 2009 and was named as a Division II statistical leader for "toughest to strikeout" in 2009. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Exercise Science and has since received her CSCS certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
